What to expect

Acupuncture Facials

When coming in for acupuncture, it is best to avoid wearing jewelry or makeup if possible, and expect to get small amounts of product in your hair. After your appointment, you can generally expect to feel a bit tired, or spacey, like you’ve just woken up from a nap. It is best to plan your appointment at a time where you will be able to relax after. Always make sure to drink plenty of water following acupuncture treatments!

How it works

Cosmetic acupuncture targets the skin and muscles in the face, making it effective for treating all kinds of skin conditions and muscle tension. On a deeper level, it stimulates the nervous, circulatory, lymphatic and immune systems in the body, helping your skin to glow from within! With regular sessions, cosmetic acupuncture has been proven to stimulate collagen and elastin production, making it effective for maintaining firmness in the skin.

During your appointment

Each treatment begins with a double cleanse and facial massage, neck and shoulder massage, and gua sha and/or facial cupping. This is followed by application of acupuncture points in the face and body and may include LED light therapy. Points are left in for 10-15 minutes, then removed. Finishing products are applied, and the treatment is finished off with a relaxing scalp massage.

How it works

Acupuncture is a practice which originates from traditional Chinese medicine, and has been refined over centuries to get to where it is today. It acts primarily on the nervous system, sending signals throughout the body to generate a healing response. By utilizing different points on the body, acupuncture can target pain, injuries, stress, digestion, menstruation, reproductive health, and more!

During your appointment

Points are applied throughout the body and left for 10-20 minutes. Additional modalities may be used in addition to needles, including gua sha, cupping, heat lamps, and massage.

Acupuncture FAQs

Can cosmetic acupuncture reduce signs of aging?

Cosmetic acupuncture will improve circulation, collagen, and elastin production in the face, which may reduce signs of aging. Like anything else, it is most effective when used preventatively.

Can I get cosmetic acupuncture if I have Botox or filler?

Yes, though it is recommended to wait at least 4 weeks before seeking treatment. With Botox, it may be wise to wait 3 months before receiving cosmetic acupuncture, as it could cause the effects to prematurely subside.

How often should I come in for treatments?

This will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Typically it is recommended to come in for cosmetic acupuncture once every 1-2 weeks for several weeks to see the best results. For standard acupuncture, it will range from once every 1-4 weeks or until symptoms resolve.

Can acupuncture help with digestive problems?

Absolutely! Acupuncture can have an impact on digestion in many ways, one of the main ways being by regulating the nervous system. With digestive issues, typically acupunctists will combine treatments with homecare instructions that involve making modifications to diet and lifestyle habits to address the digestive complaints.

What should I wear to an acupuncture appointment?

This is up to the individual's comfort level, as there is always the option to remove clothing items at the appointment. Everyone is welcome to undress to their comfort level, being mindful of the area we will be working on during their treatment and ensuring it can be easily accessed. Accommodations can always be made.
